Motivation!

As you all know I'm dieting and trying to get healthier. So far, I've dropped six pounds! I just keep thinking that six pounds of fat would have been bigger than Reagan when I brought her home! Unbelievable! It's like I gave birth again!

I've found a great way to motivate myself further and I wanted to share it all with you in case there are any others out there trying to lose the baby weight! First, I found some pictures of myself at various times of my life that I just loved, then I posted them around the house..on the door of the fridge, on the door of the pantry, on the bathroom mirror, with a sticky note beside each that says how much weight to go til I get to what I looked like in each picture. I think it's a great motivational tool!

Second, I've noticed that I looked so incredibly happy in each of those pictures..big huge smiles....genuinely in love with life, almost glowing!...I NEVER look like that anymore..and this is supposed to be the happiest time of my life. I realize now that it's because I'm NOT happy with myself or the way I look or feel. I look crappy and I feel crappy. This is also a huge motivator for me to get in shape again!

Good luck to everyone out there trying to live a healthier lifestyle!

Whooooooooooooa! Choo-choo.

The other day Reagan and I went to a park that is right next to a train track (lately she is absolutely fascinated with trains!) We watched a short train roll by right after we arrived and we stayed for quite some time waiting for another. Right as we were leaving, a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong, loud train went by. Reagan stared in complete and total awe and said "Whoooooooooooooooooooa. Choo-choo!"

So precious!

Menu Plan Monday

I haven't participated in Menu Plan Monday for a while because eating here has been kind of strange...but see our week below!

Monday: Italian Meatloaf and Mashed Potatoes (from Deceptively Delicious)
Tuesday: Chicken salad sandwhiches, yogurt with flaxseed or wheat germ
Wednesday: Mac n Beef Casserole, brownies with spinach puree for dessert!
Thursday: Buttered Noodles (with yellow squash and chicken puree for Reagan and just regular chicken for mommy and daddy) and green beans
Friday: Burgers with cauliflower or carrot puree and sweet potato 'fries'
Saturday: Chicken Nuggets with semi-steamed vegetables and yogurt dip
Sunday: Beef stew with corn muffins/whole wheat rolls

Breakfasts: Baked Egg Puffs (from Deceptively Delicious)
Lunches: Deviled eggs, sandwhiches, Pita Pizzas, fruits and vegetables, salads
Snacks: Pretzel fruit kabobs, fruit, yogurt pops, carrot and zucchini muffins

**Special Notes:

I am incorporating NutriSystem meals into my daily eating (these are not included above since I'm using them sporadically due to the high sodium content), to keep my caloric intake between 1200-1600 calories a day. By doing this, it's my hope to lose approximately 2 lbs a week!

Also, next week I plan to post a menu for the month! It's my hope by doing this that I'll significantly cut down on grocery trips and hopefully only go back for fresh fruit, vegetables, eggs and maybe milk..this is always my goal, and I never quite attain it, but I keep plugging away at it!

Bugs and Butterflies

Reagan learned a new word! (Well several actually!) "Butterfly" So next week we are going to work on some great preschool activities I found and learn all about bugs and butterflies! I'm so stinking excited! I can barely contain myself! I promise to bore you all to death with pictures of her crafty creations and cute bug stories as they occur! (Now, THAT's what I call on the spot journalism!)

Oh and here are some Reagan stories ;)

Mommy is getting ready to leave for the store and asks, no one in particular mind you, 'where are the keys?' Reagan runs at me full out yelling 'byeeeee..don't forget me!!!!

Sex!?!?!?!? So Reagan has a new word....and I thought she's been saying sex and I kept wondering..where on earth did she pick THAT up?!?! Turns out...she's been saying her version of yes 'yeschx'!!!!

Just my ramblings

Why is it an issue that McCain doesn't know how many houses he owns? And yet it's a non-issue that Obama doesn't know how many STATES there are in the COUNTRY he's running for President over?

Why is it an issue that McCain is obviously wealthy and it's an non-issue that Obama is wealthy?

Why is it an issue that McCain actually *has* an energy plan even if it's not what the liberals want to hear, and it's a non-issue that Obama doesn't have one?

Why is it an issue that liberals seem to believe the military is not paid well enough or treated well enough (and they aren't) but it's a non-issue that a liberal, Clinton, closed down a huge number of bases and refused to give our service men and women raises for EIGHT YEARS?

Why is it such a big deal that Obama made a highly touted trip to Europe/Middle East nd yet when McCain has gone several more times AND TAKES THE TIME TO VISIT OUR TROUPS WHO FIGHT FOR OUR FREEDOM...it's not such a big deal?

Why is it that color seems to be such a big deal in this election when it shouldn't be? And yet, during a time of war, for many voters, a man who has served his country and even been a prisoner of war, sacrificing many years of his life, a military career doesn't seem to matter at all? Especially when the President will be Commander in Chief?

Why is it that liberals are for killing innocent unborn children and yet refuse to support a war against GUILTY people who killed American men and women?

Why is it liberals are for taxing the 'rich' when they are the very people giving the rest us of jobs?

Why is the liberals can't stand capitalism and yet refuse to leave a country that whole heartedly stands for everything good about capitalism?

Why is it that liberals can say anything they want to say and yet when *I* voice my opinion, I'm a hate monger, a war monger, closed minded and evil?

Just stuff (and fluff)

Yes, sorry...a Pooh quote..my brain is FILLED with them now!

Reagan and I have been having a great week. We went to the zoo with friends on Tuesday morning and Reagan learned two new words--"peacock" and "kangaroo"...I, of course, am nearly about to die with pride....I mean, really, how many 20 month olds can say those words!?!? She's a genius obviously. Must come from mommy ;) (and her modesty..yes, that comes from mommy too!)

On Tuesday evening, we had Reagan's first gymnastics class and mommy's first encounter with uber-soccer-i-want-an-olympian-mommies. Scary. Very. Scary. Needless to say, Reagan and I will not be going back until she's old enough to either ask to go, or can handle a structured enviroment. I had thought, since it was for 'tiny tots' that it would be more of a playtime...boy was I wrong. Instead, I'll invest the money in some fun playmats and jump-ing type items.

Today we went to playgroup and Reagan had a great time playing almost the entire two hours without mommy. I was amazed! She's becoming more and more independent all the time..She and her little friend Catherine even played on the 'piano' without getting into a fight over who was playing with it first! Even more amazing!

We also decided that we'll be celebrating Reagan's second birthday while my mom is down for a visit (or rather, up) and we'll be having a Tigger and Pooh themed party of course. We plan to have it at the spray grounds indoor area for toddlers at one of the local YMCAs. I think she'll absolutely have a ball.

That's all the news here. Enjoy the rest of your week!

A reminder

Someone apparently found my site from a forum I am a member of. Normally a great place to talk with other moms, especially for a first time mom like myself. However this particular mother was extremely rude and since we have differences of opinions she chose to be disrespectful and write some rather tasteless comments on my blog. Please remember if you do not have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all and additionally...this blog is for my friends and family, and a lot of posts, such as the one this evil person chose to write on, are intended to serve as a record for Reagan's baby book someday, so if your intent is malicious, think twice before commenting.

No hot!

Last night we asked reagan if she was hot. She felt her forehead a few times and said 'no hot!'

I nearly died with laughter! I guess ever since she had a really high fever, we ALWAYS check her forehead to see if she's hot or not!

Oh, and her newest word is "di-ee coke". *rolling my eyes*

New Reagan Stories!

Reagan story #1:

reagan: eat! eat! eat!
mommy: eat! what do you want to eat?
reagan (slightly exasperated tone): FOOD!

she is sooooooooooooooooooooooo much like her father!

Reagan story #2:

my sympathetic baby: reagan and i were at walmart sort of in the middle of the store and heard a baby screaming from the front of the store. reagan got upset and started pointing and grunting and chattering and trying to get up out of the cart, presumably to get to the baby and saying 'ok???? ok????'

i said 'reagan, the baby is ok. she's just upset, it's alright'

so we get to the front of the store about 5-7 minutes later, we've been talking about other things, no crying baby in sight..and all of the sudden reagan says 'sad baby??'

it was so sweet! she wanted to know where she was and make sure she was ok!! some days my heart just melts into a puddle.

Missing something...

The other day someone added me as their friend on Facebook, and for the life of me, I cannot remember who this person is. I wrote to a mutual friend and even asked her for some additional information--which she gave...and I still don't remember the person.

Sometimes I feel as though there is a missing link in my memories. For example, I can tell you my that my best friend's birthday when I was nine or ten, was August
31st. I cannot for the life of me remember a certain special boyfriend's last name. I can tell you when Josh and I shared our first kiss, but I can't tell you when we said I love you or who said it first. I can tell you my reading comprehension ACT score but I when faced with pictures, I can't even tell you for sure if someone was in my high school graduating class.

I know that I absolutely started noticing the memory loss after suffering from PTSD. Special details of Reagan's birth and the weeks and months following, are gone forever. Details of my prior life...gone. It's almost as if my mind decided, ok, this is what I can handle..the rest has got to go. And it's very upsetting.

At what point did *I* lose control of myself? At what point did the chemical bank in my brain decided to take over? Was I ever in control? Are any of us ever in control of what we understand, remember or think?

I'm thankful that God designed me to be able to bear burdens in the most efficient way possible. *I* didn't have to decide to go on auto-pilot or what memories to forfeit. My brain automatically did the job for me when a crisis occurred. I just wish I were like a computer, though, and had some backup system for all the memories I've lost.

Fall is coming....

"Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns."
- George Eliot

Photobucket

And in honor of the fall weather that seems to be upon us, tonight I'm making Corn Chowder for Josh and Reagan. I have several recipes for the same soup, so tonight we'll try version one and see what kind of reviews it gets! Corn Chowder Recipe Number One is below:

1 can cream of celery, reduced sodium
1 soup can of milk
1/2 cup picante sauce
1 can of corn (or frozen/fresh equivalent)
1 cup cubed cooked chicken
4 bacon strips, crumbled
--cheese, green onions, additional picante sauce

In a saucepan, combine soup, milk, picante sauce, corn, chicken and bacon. Heat. Add toppings as desired. Serves 4.

I'll probably serve this with green beans (I have some fresh ones from the farmer's market) and whole wheat rolls.

Strawberry Mice

This is what Reagan had for lunch on Monday:

And here is the link. I will say she wasn't quite impressed with the mice...she looked at them like 'what the heck are these'....so much for impressing my 1 1/2 year old!

A lot to catch up on!

Wow! This has been a super busy past couple of days for us! The weather here is GORGEOUS and Reagan and I have been playing outside and walking quite a bit and just enjoying life.

Let's see! What new news? Pritsha (one of our furbabies) has suddenly taken a liking to Reagan. I don't know if it's the cooler weather or if it's the fact that she's finally used to her, but she leans into pets now and nuzzles on her, instead of hissing, swatting and generally being rude. I'm quite pleased by this development!

Reagan's vocabulary just keeps exploding. Every day she says 3-4 new words. I'm in constant awe--swimming pool and owl are just two new ones that I'm amazed at! Her comprehension is through the roof! We went around the house yesterday and I asked her to point out certain items...I can't believe how much she knows..and when I tell her to do something..she UNDERSTANDS!! (For the most part!).

She is even making jokes! JOKES! We were in the car the other day and she had something in her hand..I forget what it was..maybe a food item or a toy..and she kept putting it on her head and saying "Hat!!" and cracking up with laughter! Such a silly girl!

She is continuing to baby and doctor every animal and baby doll in sight. Grandma (Josh's mom) just got her a baby doll carriage and had a full carriage set made for it..adorable..and Reagan is having sooo much fun with it!

Her new favorite food is cheese, which she asks me for at least 15-20 times a day (not an exaggeration!!) and her 'thank yous' (takeooo) and pleases (peas) are getting more and more clear and common!

Here's a cute story from the other day:

so we were out and about today and stopped by barnes and noble. i took her and changed her the first time and saw that the men's room also had a changing table, so the next time she needed changing, i told josh to go change her.

while they were in there some man came in and passed gas REALLY loudly. josh said reagan kind of scrunched up her face like she was trying to remember what that sound meant, for a minute and then she yelled "phew! phew!" and continued to say it louder and louder and louder (because she liked the reverberation in the bathroom) until they left. 'PHEW!! PHEW!!'

i nearly choked to death i was laughing so hard when he came out and told me!!!

out of the mouth of babes....

Otherwise, we are just living life with all the normal things that come along with it...cooking, cleaning, playing and watching Pooh about twenty times a day...ok so maybe that isn't your normal routine, but for my Pooh obsessed toddler, it is!

One new note: I started Nutrisystem...today is my fourth day and I'm loving it! I've lost 4 lbs so far and the food is just incredible and I'm feeling good..albiet a little shaky from the sudden decrease in calories, but I'm sure I'll get used to that! If anyone is interested in joining, please email me or post a comment here and I'll be more than happy to get you a coupon (which will in turn get ME a coupon! WOOHOO!)

Everyone enjoy the rest of today! (Oh, and enjoy the new pics of Reagan too!)

Abortion

WARNING: Do not go to this site if you are ultra-sensitive. It does have graphic images.

http://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2005/apr/05042504.html

This story is absolutely devestating. I can't believe they refused to help the mother and child that was clearly born alive...and worst of all..I can't believe the mother actually went in to abort a child..much less a child at 23 weeks gestation...when I have seen parents crying in the NICU, praying to God that their preterm baby makes it.

THIS IS SICKENING!!!!!!!! AND I AM FURIOUS!!! What kind of people are we in this country that we have so little value for life!??!!?!?!?! We don't deserve to be the greatest nation in the world...not when we have a large population of people who believe it is ok to murder the helpless.

Baby seals are protected. Eagles are protected. Hell, the damn polar bears are protected. BUT A HUMAN BABY IS NOT. WE ARE-- SICK HOPELESS DEVIOD OF ALL SENSE OF RIGHT AND WRONG-- PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Green Cat and Cheese

Today, my cats escaped. I didn't realize they were gone until I heard the creak of the screen door, which apparently had been open for some time. I immediately panicked and set out in search of the escaped convicts.

I didn't have to go far. There they were, right outside the door. Apparently Pritsha, my white and black cat, decided there was nothing quite like sunbathing on top of chalk, which Reagan and I had colored with earlier.

So, now I have a green cat. Yes, I'll post pictures later. As soon as Kodak stops acting crazy.

Now, you're wondering what this has to do with cheese right? Well, nothing. Just that I'm so proud of my baby girl for telling me exactly what she wanted for a snack--CHEESE! And yes, I have gone grocery shopping :)

Enjoy your beautiful day!

Making Do (and a cheese tostada recipe)

Ok. I confess, I have not been grocery shopping in roughly two weeks (I really dislike grocery shopping with a toddler because 30 minutes in to it, she's screaming!!)....which means there is barely anything to eat in this house. Add in the fact that I rarely buy premade foods anymore and some seriously creativity was needed in the meal and snack department! Here's what I came up with...and a valuable reminder that necessity is the motherhood of invention (wonder if invention ever refused to pick up his crayons??).

Breakfast: I managed to throw together some old fashioned oatmeal with butter and brown sugar and some blueberries that we picked about two weeks ago and froze.
Snack: Frozen blueberries and frozen green peas and cheese tostadas--more on that below
Lunch: One miraculously uncovered can of low-sodium Campbell's chicken noodle soup that managed to escape the great pantry clean up...and more of those yummy cheese tostadas!

Ok, here is what I did to make cheese tostadas:
I found some whole wheat pitas in the freezer, along with some shredded cheese. Simply cut the pita in half, toast in the toaster, then spread with (healthy--as in Brummel and Brown or Smart Balance!) butter and sprinkle with shredded cheese. Place in microwave for 30 seconds--long enough for the cheese to melt but not for the toastada to get yucky! YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!

All warm and gooey inside....

I just read that someone subscribes to my blog but usually never posts.....I feel all heart-warmy and happy that someone reads what I write...awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww..thanks Shannon!!

The Great Crayon War

I could have picked up the crayons by myself in about 30 seconds. I could have. But I didn't. Instead I chose to battle it out with a my toddler.

"Reagan, pick up your crayons." She ignores me.
"Reagan, please pick up your crayons." Again, ignored.
"Reagan, please pick up your crayons from the floor and put them in your bucket." This I say thinking maybe she needs more specific instructions. Again, I am ignored.
"Reagan, if you don't pick up your crayons right now, you are going in time out." Ignored. We make our way to the bedroom for 1.5 minutes of time-out with Reagan howling the whole time. Discussion. This is why you were in time-out. Now, back to pick up the crayons. Repeat earlier scene...this time with a smack on the butt and time-out.

FINALLY....30 minutes and one burned dinner later, the crayons are up off the floor and I have a tear-stained toddler watching Pooh while I finally salvage what's left of our supper for the evening.

Toddlers....

Randomness....is that a word??

It's getting late and I haven't had much caffiene today..not to mention that my brain sometimes feels sucked dry by being a mom (how many times can I watch Pooh in one day!?!?), so ignore the post title!. Ok enough of that! I've been tagged by Jana to participate in this meme. So...

Here are the rules.

Link to the person who tagged you.
Post the rules on your blog.
Write six random things about yourself.
Tag six random people at the end of your post by linking to their blogs.
Let each person know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their website.
Let your tagger know when your blog entry is up

1. I've had a baby (Reagan), but I have never, ever had a contraction. Not even a Braxton-Hicks contraction.
2. I am completely and totally crazed about Christmas. I cannot stop myself. I spend all year planning and waiting for that magical month-long event. *SIGH* I can't wait til Decembmer.
3. I cannot sleep without covers. My husband thinks I'm insane..it'll be 100 degrees outside and I need a blanket.
4. Fall is my absolute favorite season of the year. And it's WAY.TOO.SHORT.
5. I named my daughter after Ronald Reagan. Yep. Really. I hope she's proud of that fact one day.
6. Sometimes I feel or think that I'm just playing at mommy and one day Reagan's real mom is going to show up, take her home and the fantasy is all going to end....how fortunate am I that I really am her Mommy and she'll be with me always??

Alright, I'm tagging:
Leah
Stace
and well, that's it :)

"FOO-BAAA!!!"

Tonight Reagan and I were watching tv while eating dinner (bad, I know..but Josh was at school!) and a T-Mobile commercial came on..the one that plays out various scenes in life...well, anyway, one scene was a football game. Reagan immediately dropped her food, pointed at the screen with her finger and yelled "FOOO-BAAAA!!!!" SO CUTE. So much like both of us! LOL!
